EDI
EDI was founded in Brooklyn, New York in 1951 as a manufacturer of low voltage selenium rectifiers for the home entertainment market. The company moved from Brooklyn to New Rochelle, New York in 1960 and to its pre-owned location in Yonkers, New York in 1963. In the 1960s and 1970s, EDI was a force in the television industry, supplying diodes for TV doublers to American TV manufacturers such as RCA and Zenith, and Philips and ITT in Europe. As price competition from the Far East became more pronounced, EDI began to move away from the commodity type rectifier business to its current position as a supplier of high performance products. EDIs product line includes a range of highly specialized silicon rectifiers, standard and specialty high voltage assemblies, rectifier bridges, surface mount devices and diode arrays. EDI manufactures approximately 95% of its products complete; the balances are purchased with the EDI brand and are sold as is or assembled into special packaging.
