Nichia
In 1983, Nichia started producing and selling GaAlAs (gallium aluminum arsenic) epitaxial wafers for IR LEDs, marking the dawn of Nichias semiconductor business. In 1989, research and development of LEDs based on gallium nitride began with the installation of the first MOCVD (Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition) equipment, which would produce blue LEDs. In 1991, the development of cathode materials for lithium-ion secondary batteries began. During this period, the development of these products would become the basis of Nichias main business in the coming years.
