The principle of the EZYTrigger™ was developed by Bernhard Rudert in the mid-1970s and first used on 25 – 100 ton cranes. The main customer of the product at the time was the South African Electricity Company (Eskom), which required reliable speed control for the installation and maintenance of its turbines. The EZYTrigger™ was subsequently also supplied to the German crane manufacturer Demag. By the 80s, Wulff Cranes used these units on 10-25 ton cranes and later on 180 ton ladle cranes. To date, the largest ladle crane using the EZYTrigger™ is 600 ton. These units are widely used in harsh and hazardous environments in the steel industry, ports and mines, where the equipment must not only withstand high temperatures but also continuous high supply voltage spikes, which are the cause of pulse transformer breakdown. The range of applications has been continuously expanded and now covers all industries in the power spectrum where thyristors are used.
