SOC began in 1995 as a research effort led by Dr. Shaowen Song of Wilfrid Laurier University to develop the highest performance CODEC engine, using an all-hardware architecture without any embedded processors or software. In 2005, SOC successfully brought the MPEG-2 codec to market, followed shortly by the H.264 codec. SOC also supports the H.265 standard after it is released. Today, SOC continues to innovate in the hardware codec IP market, investing in new standards while supporting its customers and current codec portfolio. SOCs products are designed for the future, so customers can easily upgrade to SOCs next generation products when they choose. SOC has customers in more than 30 countries and counting. SOC specializes in high-performance video codec IP cores such as MPEG2, H.264 and H.265 encoders, decoders and transcoders. SOCs MPEG codecs are implemented using its proprietary single-clock driven, fully hardware parallel architecture (no processor and embedded software required) that features small silicon footprint, ultra-low latency and ultra-low power consumption. SOC MPEG video/audio codecs are available as IP cores for FPGA-level integration or as standalone plug-and-play modules for PCB-level integration. SOC offers great flexibility to customize product specifications and hardware interfaces to meet customer needs. SOC also manufactures FPGA prototyping boards and provides additional IP cores such as Ethernet, UDP/IP, video scaling to enable faster video-based product development.
