Siliconix / Vishay
Vishay, through its Siliconix subsidiary, is an industry leader in developing power semiconductor products that improve the efficiency of power management circuits in end products while reducing space requirements. As the worlds number one brand of low-voltage power MOSFETs (metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistors), Vishay Siliconix products play a key role in enabling handheld and portable electronic systems to operate more efficiently using smaller, lighter battery packs. High-voltage Vishay Siliconix power MOSFETs are used in applications ranging from motor control in industrial systems to power conversion in switches and routers that enable global communications networks. Vishay Siliconix power ICs target a variety of markets from mobile communications and computing to fixed telecommunications infrastructure and include switch-mode regulators, linear regulators, and power management devices. Many of the devices, based on specialized process flows, are manufactured specifically for the medical, automotive, and military markets. Milestones for Vishay Siliconix include the first analog switch, the first analog multiplexer, the first small-form-factor power MOSFET (Tiny Foot®), and the first power MOSFET built on trench technology (Trench FET®). This tradition of innovation continues with new silicon technologies designed to maximize power MOSFET performance. For DC-DC conversion and load switching, Vishay Siliconix leads the market with high-density trench field transistor silicon processes and innovative packaging options that enable better thermal performance (PowerBay, ® PolarBay®), smaller footprints (Chip Field Effect Transistor®, Micro Foot®, PowerPAK SC-70, PowerPAK SC-75), and integration of multiple devices (Power)®. Vishay Siliconix power ICs focus on providing the best and appropriate level of integration for power management and conversion. Recent innovations include the industrys most powerful DrMOS solution for managing core voltages in PCs, servers and other CPU-based systems, and the new microBUCK™ DC-DC converter family, which combines a controller IC, MOSFET and bootstrap switch for a step-down regulator in a tiny 4 mm2 package. The Vishay Siliconix portfolio now also features high-voltage planar MOSFETs purchased from International Rectifier. Silicon-Genix was founded in 1962. In 1998, Vishay acquired the semiconductor business group of TEMIC, which included an 80% stake in Silicon-Genix. Vishay purchased the remaining 20% stake in Silicon-Genix in 2005.
