Sargent Tools
The Wm. Schollhorn Co. was founded in New Haven, Connecticut in 1870, beginning the Sargent tradition of quality tools. William Bernard, the inventor of the Bernard parallel action pliers, sold his idea to the Wm. Schollhorn Co. Over the years, Bernard worked as an engineer, salesman, and finally as a partner in the company, designing a wide variety of pliers, ticket punches, and other related general tools. About eighty years later, the Sargent Manufacturing Company acquired the Wm. Schollhorn Company and became known as the hand tool division of Sargent Manufacturing.
