In 2003, after a coffee shop meeting near downtown Pittsburgh, a small team began developing a true wireless power solution that would both eliminate batteries and enable completely cordless devices, with no wires or charging surfaces required. At that meeting, it was clear to everyone that long-range wireless power, or Power over Disces 2007 cropped devices that could charge remotely, would be a game changer for many industries and products. The team spent years refining its wireless charging technology — which transmits radio frequencies (RF), whose energy can be “harvested” to power devices embedded in small receivers — and entered the market at the 2007 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), where Powercast’s technology won CNET’s CES Best Emerging Technology Award.
